Burning a CD/DVD

MediaMonkey allows you to Burn an Audio CD that can be read by any standard CD Player, or a Data CD/DVD or set of Data CD/DVDs that can be used to back up your collection or to play it on another player that supports MP3s or other digital audio formats.

Burn an Audio CD

  1. Create a Playlist consisting of the Tracks you want to burn (optional).
  2. Select the Playlist or Tracks that you want to Burn.
  3. Drag and Drop the tracks onto the Burn button on the Toolbar or click Burn CD/DVD from the Tools menu or from the Copy menu in the Now Playing Dialog. A Wizard will open.
  4. Step through the Wizard, configure CD Settings (see below), and press 'Burn'.

An Audio CD that can be played on any standard CD Player will be burnt.

Burn Data CD/DVD(s)

  1. Select the Playlist or Tracks that you want to Burn.
  2. From the Tools menu or from the Copy menu in the Now Playing Dialog, click Burn CD/DVD. A Wizard will open.
  3. Add or remove content that you wish to include on the CD/DVD.  Note that if the content selected exceeds the space available on a single disc, you will be prompted to insert additional discs until the entire selection has been burnt.
  4. Choose the format in which the disc should be burnt.
    1. Choose the 'disc format'.  This is the format that is used by default for all tracks that will be burnt to the disc.  See Configuring Directory and File Formats for details.  Note that the format chosen affects the order in which they will be burnt--i.e. tracks are burnt in alphabetical order (this is relevant if you will use disc in a device that plays tracks in the order in which they've been burnt).
    2. Enable 'Burn Playlists to:' if you wish to burn Playlists in an alternate format that preserves track order.
    3. Enable 'Burn .m3u Playlists' to burn .m3u playlist files for the nodes that you've selected
Organize playlists using 'prefix for each playlist type' will cause all playlists to be burnt to a single directory, and playlists for a specific Artist will be prefixed by the word 'Artist - '.  If you organize the playlists using 'directory for each playlist type' then playlists will be organized into multiple directories.  The latter is more usable, but the former may be preferable for devices with poor navigation tools.
  5. Step through the Wizard, configure CD Settings (see below),  and press 'Burn'.

A Data CD/DVD will be burnt.

Write Method

CDs and DVDs can be burnt using 'Disc at Once' or 'Track at once' methods.  Disc at Once often yields better results for Audio CDs, as it minimizes the space between tracks and should be used if you wish to include CD-Text. Track at once should be used for multi-session discs.

Finalization

When a CD/DVD is burnt, if 'allow further writing' is configured, it is possible to use it as a multi-session disc and burn it again (assuming space remains on the disc).
